Ames Piano Quartet records two CDs for release

The Ames Piano Quartet, Iowa State's resident chamber music ensemble, has recorded its ninth CD (tentatively scheduled for release by Albany recordings before the end of the year).

The CD features recently composed American pieces for piano quartets. The featured work is "Dark Rosaleen -- Rhapsody on the Air of James Joyce," written in 2000 by American composer Lee Hoiby for the Ames Piano Quartet .

The quartet will release another CD this fall through Dorian Recordings that features works by Czech composers.

The quartet was founded in 1976. Current members are William David, piano; Mahlon Darlington, violin; Jonathan Sturm, viola; and George Work, cello.

Summary

Two CDs by the Ames Piano Quartet will be released this year. The first, a CD featuring works by Czech composers, will come out this fall. The other, featuring works composed for piano quartets, will be released before the end of the year.
