ISU residence director resigns

Randy Alexander, director of the department of residence, resigned from Iowa State as of July 1 to pursue other employment interests, including consulting on campus housing master plans. Alexander assumed the position of director of residence in August 1996. He announced his resignation June 24.

While at Iowa State, Alexander directed master plan projects to expand and diversify the residence system and better meet the personal and academic needs of students. Some of these projects included construction of the Frederiksen Court apartments; the renovation of Maple, Wallace and Wilson halls; the construction of suite-style Eaton Hall; and creation of academic services that have resulted in improved classroom performance.

"We recognize the outstanding contributions Randy has made, and wish him the best in his career," said Vice President for Student Affairs Tom Hill.

Hill has appointed Todd Holcomb, associate vice president for student affairs, as interim director of the Department of Residence.

Holcomb directed the office of residence life and new student programs at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, for several years before coming to Iowa State last fall.

"Todd's experience and leadership in this area will ensure continued progress in the Department of Residence while we focus on our search for a permanent director," Hill said.

Hill said he plans to appoint a search committee yet this month.
