Tickets on sale this summer for Stephens season

by Anne Krapfl

Tony Award-winning plays. International orchestras. Washington satire. New Orleans jazz.

Tickets are on sale now for the 2004-05 Season at Stephens -- 16 shows over eight months. The international lineup includes:

  • Six dance or acrobatic productions
  • Five theater productions
  • Four music performances
  • One political comedy performance

Capitol Steps, a group of former Congressional staffers who turned to comedy, will perform Oct. 28, five days before Election Day. The troupe uses daily news headlines to create skits and musical parodies (see http://www.capsteps.com).

National touring companies will present the well-known and oft-awarded musicals Rent (Oct. 21-22), Jesus Christ Superstar (Nov. 9-10), Crazy for You (Feb. 6, 2005) and Fiddler on the Roof (Feb. 25).

Cookin', billed as an Asian-style STOMP, comes to Stephens next April. The non-verbal performance, created in Korea, features four chefs working against a deadline to prepare a wedding banquet. Their "work" includes martial arts, dance and percussion.

Other dance options include the St. Petersburg Ballet Theatre in Romeo and Juliet (Jan. 27), the Virsky national dance company from the Ukraine, Russia (Oct. 2); and Ailey II, a junior company of the modern, African American dance company Alvin Ailey, New York City (March 4).

The full season is outlined online at http://www.center.iastate.edu/events/indexseason.asp. Prior to July 1, tickets for Season at Stephens events are available only at the Web site, from the Stephens box office or by mail (use the order form in the season brochure). On July 1, tickets go on sale to the public via TicketMaster.

Throughout the year, patrons who pre-purchase tickets to three or more performances will receive a 15 percent discount.
