ISU sets sponsored funding record
Iowa State received more than $230 million in sponsored funding during
fiscal year 2003, a record high. This is an increase of 2.2 percent over the
previous year's total of $225.4 million.
The $230 million includes all contracts, grants and gifts received directly
by Iowa State for research, public service/extension activities, educational
projects, student financial aid, buildings and equipment. Sponsored funding
for research alone was more than $148 million, also a record for Iowa State.
Support from federal agencies increased by more than 4 percent to $152.9
million. Non-federal sources overall decreased by about 2 percent in FY03.
Support from foundations and associations was up by 13 percent (to $22.8
million), and support from businesses, corporations and commodity groups
remained steady at about $26 million. Support from state, county and city
government agencies, as well as from other universities and colleges, also
was down.
