Buchanan renovation delayed
Renovation of Buchanan Hall will be delayed because project cost estimates
received this month were substantially over budget, said Randy Alexander,
director of the residence department.
Work on the project was slated to begin this fall and be completed in fall
2003.
Buchanan is unoccupied this year. Residence hall housing designated for
upper-division students and graduate students will continue to be available,
however.
Work on other residence department projects, including the new Union Drive
community, is on schedule.
"We would have preferred to have Buchanan open when we implemented the
transition to the upper-division and younger students neighborhoods concept
in fall 2003," Alexander said. "However, we have about 2,500 bed spaces that
will be available to upper-division students, and we can proceed without
Buchanan being available."
