Hira joins Geoffroy on Aug. 13 Talk of Iowa
Labh Hira, dean of the College of Business, will join President Gregory Geoffroy on WOI Radio's Talk of Iowa Tuesday, Aug. 13. The call-in show airs from 10 to 11 a.m. on WOI-AM (640). Questions may be sent in advance to talk@iastate.edu

New brochure highlights ISU
A new brochure, "This Is Iowa State," provides an overview of ISU facts and highlights and can be used in recruiting and welcoming new faculty and staff, briefing campus visitors or at conferences. For copies, contact University Relations at 4-7958, online@iastate.edu.

Finalists visit campus
Two finalists for the position of associate dean of students, director of minority student affairs will attend open forums from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Memorial Union Gold Room. The candidates and forum dates are:
  • Friday, July 26, Ian Art King, director of diversity programs and services, George Mason University, Fairfax, Va.
  • Monday, July 29, Gina Shropshire, academic adviser at the Mendoza College of Business, University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Ind.
Finalists who already have visited campus include: Charles Van Rossum, special assistant to the vice chancellor for student affairs, director of the Summer Institute for Promising Scholars and assistant director of minority assistance program, University of Nebraska, Lincoln (July 17); Timothy Beard, director of student affairs, Florida A&M University, Tallahassee (July 19); and San Wong, associate dean of student services, Des Moines Area Community College (July 22).

Workshop ideas sought
If you have a good idea for a staff development program and would be interested in facilitating a workshop during the FY03 year, contact the Office of Training and Development at 4-1070 by Aug. 1. Training and development staff currently are program planning for the year.

New faculty, TA seminar set
The Teaching Seminar and Orientation for new faculty and teaching assistants will be held Aug. 19-21 at the Memorial Union. The seminar and meals are free, but pre-registration is required. An online registration form is at http://wss07.ait.iastate.edu. For more information, contact the Center for Teaching Excellence.

Grant writing series planned
A six-phase workshop series to help faculty write grants for projects related to the scholarship of teaching and learning will be held fall semester. A limited number of scholarships to defray costs are available. Applications are due by 3 p.m. Aug. 12.
