Foundation begins search for new president and CEO

Members of the campus community are invited to submit candidates' names in the search for a new president and CEO of the ISU Foundation.

A search advisory committee was named May 10 and is being led by Agriculture dean Catherine Woteki and ISU alumnus Roger Underwood ('80 agriculture business), CEO of Becker-Underwood, Ames. The foundation board of directors also has hired an executive search firm, Educational Management Network/Witt/Kieffer, based in Oak Brook, Ill., to identify, screen and recruit candidates.

The advisory committee will select two or three finalists from among the candidates for on-campus interviews. The foundation board hopes to select a new president this fall, according to John Lawson ('62 mechanical engineering), chair of the board.

Tom Mitchell, who has served as ISU Foundation president since February 1997, is leaving Ames next month to become vice chancellor of university advancement at the University of California, Irvine. An announcement on an interim foundation president is expected by the end of May.

Names of nominees may be sent to Dennis Barden, Educational Management Network/Witt/Kieffer, 2015 Spring Rd. Suite 510, Oak Brook, Ill., 60523, or to the e-mail address: isufpres@emnemn.com.

Joining Woteki and Underwood on the advisory committee are:
  • Ben Allen, interim vice president for external affairs and Iowa State provost, beginning June 1.
  • John DeVries ('59 industrial administration), ISU Foundation governor and president and CEO of Colorfx, Des Moines.
  • Sue Haug, associate professor and head of the music department.
  • Larissa Holtmyer Jones, director of development, College of Business.
  • Frank Judisch ('58 individual major), ISU Foundation governor and professor emeritus of ophthalmology at the University of Iowa.
  • Sharon Juon, ISU Foundation Board member and executive director of the Iowa Northland Regional Council of Governments, Waterloo.
  • James Melsa, dean of the College of Engineering.
  • Bruce Van De Velde, director of athletics.
  • Marvin Walter ('62, '64 animal science), ISU Foundation governor and president and owner of Dayton Road Development, Ames.
