Permit increases likely to be approved this week

by Anne Krapfl
New parking rates received preliminary approval during the March 14 meeting of the Board of Regents, State of Iowa. The regents were to vote on the proposal this week.

Under ISU's proposal, all rates would increase July 1 between 4.2 percent (24-hour reserved) and 35.7 percent (commuter, residence hall and elected government students). Five of the 12 rates would increase the same levels in FY04 and FY05 to help pay for expanded lots around Jack Trice Stadium and two long-range campus parking facilities.

The regents also:
  • Received the recommendation from all five regents schools that no new early retirement incentive program be proposed at this time. The current ISU policy expires June 30.
  • Approved a list of construction plans on campus. Highlights include a new budget ($10.17 million) for the Reiman Gardens conservatory. The new number is up $267,000 and includes funds for plantings, landscaping and furnishings (removed in June 2001 from plans). The list also includes a request to begin planning for a $1.8 million community center in the University Village student neighborhood.
Following is a list of proposed increases for ISU parking permits. The first five would receive the same increase for three years.
