Swing dance set for Oct. 6
The ISU Ballroom Dance Club will hold a swing dance from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Oct. 6, in the Memorial Union Great Hall. Dress is casual nice, no blue jeans. Admission is $10 at the door or $8 in advance. For more information, contact Joni Eekhoff, 572-5731, joeekhoff@yahoo.com.

Those who missed Pulitzer Prize winning author Jared Diamond's talk on "Guns, Germs and Steel: How the Modern World Came to Be" earlier this week can catch a videotape of his presentation at noon Tuesday, Oct. 2, in the Memorial Union Oak Room.


Geoffroy at October forum
President Gregory Geoffroy will discuss his views on the scholarship of teaching during the October Faculty Forum. Scott Chadwick, Greenlee School of Journalism, will report on the progress of Iowa State's participation in the Carnegie campus program. The forum will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, in the Campanile Room, Memorial Union. Bring your lunch; beverages and dessert are provided. Street Scenecancelled
A production of Street Scene scheduled for October has been cancelled. Instead, ISU Theatre will present the comedy Lend Me a Tenor at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 26-27 and Nov. 1-2, and at 2 p.m. Oct. 28 and Nov. 4, in Fisher Theater. Tickets for Lend Me a Tenorare available at the Iowa State Center ticket office, 4-3347.


New faculty orientation
An orientation for new faculty on "Research Funding, Industry Collaboration and Technology Transfer at ISU" will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, and repeated from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, in 101 Carver. A reception will be held in the Carver lobby a half hour before each session begins. For more information, call 4-4933.


Geoffroy on Talk of Iowa
President Gregory Geoffroy will be a guest on WOI Radio's Talk of Iowa on Wednesday, Oct. 3. The live, call-in show will air from 10 to 11 a.m. on 640 AM. Listeners may call during the show (1-800-262-0640 or 4-0640 in Ames) or send e-mail questions in advance to: talk@iastate.edu.


UW campaign ends Oct. 5
As of Sept. 24, Iowa State employees had pledged $59,845 in the 2001 United Way campaign. This is nearly 27 percent of the campus goal of $223,000, which includes a separate $30,000 goal for the fall Habitat for Humanity drive. The campaign concludes Friday, Oct. 5. Employees are asked to return their pledge envelopes, whether or not they include a gift pledge.


Ag policy seminar is Oct. 8
Dispelling common misperceptions about U.S. farm programs and agricultural trade policies is the goal of an educational forum from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, in the Scheman Building. Hosted by the College of Agriculture, the forum is open to the public, with a target audience of community leaders and Iowa State faculty, staff and students. Refreshments will be served.
