Recruitment and retention grant funding returns
A $30,000 competitive grant fund for projects that focus on recruiting and retaining ISU students has been renewed for the 2001-02 academic year. Since fall 1994, the grant program has been funded by the presidents office and administered by a committee of the Professional and Scientific Council. Information on a fall deadline for grant proposals will be announced later this summer.


P&S tuition reimbursement fund continues
A fund that reimburses Professional and Scientific staff members for college-level course tuition has been set at $125,000 for FY 2002. The fund typically covers up to three credits (at ISU tuition rates) per semester, per P&S employee. For more information, visit this Web site, http://www.iastate.edu/~ps_info/ProfDev.html.


Business college names interim associate dean
Gary Koppenhaver, associate professor of finance, will serve as an interim associate dean in the College of Business for the 2001-02 academic year. His responsibilities will include budget planning and management, supervision of computer labs and management of facilities. James McElroy, professor of management, will continue in a two-year associate dean appointment that began last September. McElroy oversees undergraduate and graduate programs, research and career services. They join interim dean Labh Hira. Business dean Benjamin Allen is serving as interim vice president for external affairs for a year.


Hall appointed to council term
Vi Hall, audit assistant in the internal audit office, has been appointed to a one-year term on the Professional and Scientific Council to fill a council vacancy in the external affairs area.


Registration open for nature camp for adults
An Adult Nature Weekend at the Iowa Lakeside Laboratory on West Okoboji Lake, Milford, will be held Aug. 17-19. The education camp is for adults who are interested in nature. The weekend includes several lectures and outdoor sessions and hikes. The fee is $175 and includes lodging and meals. Registrations are due July 27.
