Interim director
Nancy Bevin, Ames, has been named interim director of the Margaret Sloss Women's Center. She recently served as a temporary assistant professor in the ISU educational leadership and policies studies pro-gram. She also served as a coordinator/facilitator for the Vision 2020 (Kellogg) Project: "Living Well in Place."

The search for a permanent center director will be launched this fall.

Sponsored funding
For the first time, Iowa State has topped the $200 million mark in sponsored funding. Total sponsored funding at Iowa State in FY2000 was $211.2 million, a 6 percent increase over FY99's $199.2 million.

Areas of sponsored funding that registered noticeable increases included student financial aid ($15.4 million in FY2000 compared to $9.1 million in FY99) and building funds ($27.3 million compared to $12.6 million). Approximately $11.3 million of the increase in building funds was for the National Swine Facility.

Funding of research at Iowa State, the largest portion of the sponsored funding total, dipped by $3.6 million to $120.2 million compared to FY99. But within the total are increases from federal agencies such as the U.S. Department of Agriculture ($21 million in FY2000 compared to $15.9 million in FY99) and the National Science Foundation ($12.3 million compared to $8.4 million).

Presidential search continues
Faculty Senate President David Hopper will lead a subcommittee that is developing proposed criteria to be used in selecting Iowa State's next president. The subcommittee was named during the meeting of the Presidential Search and Screen Advisory Committee Aug. 4 and will submit its recommendation to the committee at its next meeting.

Subcommittee members, all of whom are on the presidential search committee as well, are Hopper; Kerry Dixon, president of the Professional and Scientific Council; Andrew Bock, president of AFSCME Local 96; Brian Anderson, president of Graduate Student Senate; Roy Teas, distinguished professor in the College of Business; and Peg Armstrong-Gustafson, Waukee, ISU alumna and member of the ISU Athletic Council and other university boards.
