Honors

Student award named for former faculty member
A new award at the annual Adventures in Supercomputing Expo for high school teams honors Charles Wright, ISU university professor of electrical engineering and computer engineering, who died in a March car accident. Wright had helped coordinate the Iowa event with the national organization for many years and served as a judge.


Ebbers named Fulbright Scholar
Larry Ebbers, professor of educational leadership and policy studies and associate dean in the College of Education, has been named a Fulbright Scholar and will work to increase mutual understanding between U.S. and German leaders. Ebbers attended the 2000 Fulbright Seminar for U.S. Administrators in International Education March 25-April 14 in Berlin.


Honorary professorships
David Topel, professor of animal science, and John Miranowski, professor and chair of the economics (Agriculture) department, have been named honorary professors of the College of Agriculture and Economics of Gyongyos at St. Stephen University in Hungary. The honorary professor- ships recognize efforts made by the two to strengthen educational and scientific ties between the two institutions, including exchange programs.


Outstanding student organization advisers
Seven Iowa State employees were inducted this spring into the first Advisers Hall of Fame, both for exceptional student advising and for contributions to the Iowa State community. Honored by the Student Activities Center, based on student-submitted nominations, were Jay Berry, Pete Englin, Mariama Hodari, Penny Rosenthal, Jeff Sorensen, Howard Tyler and Eric Yarwood.


Regional director
Eveadean Myers, associate director of affirmative action, has been elected director of the American Association for Affirmative Action's Region VII (Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas and Missouri) for a two-year term. AAAA is an association of professionals in affirmative action, equal opportunity, diversity and other human resource programs. Iowa State will host a regional meeting Oct. 2-3.


Employee safety
Iowa State was one of the 180 businesses, industries and government agencies in Iowa to receive an award for promoting active safety programs and reducing OSHA-recordable injuries among employees. The award was presented at the Iowa-Illinois Safety Council's 47th Annual Professional Development Conference in Davenport in April.
