Ogden bids ISU Center adieu

by Linda Charles
The Iowa State Center will be under new management following the sale of part of Ogden Corp.'s operations to ARAMARK.

Ogden completed the sale of Ogden Entertainment Inc., its food and beverage concessions and venue management operations to ARAMARK on June 2.

Ogden has provided full service management at the Iowa State Center for the past 12 years. Ogden's contract with the Iowa State Center ends June 30, 2001, and the firm has indicated it will not rebid due to disposition of its entertainment division. University officials are in the process of preparing to solicit new contract proposals.

ARAMARK Entertainment Inc. will manage the ISU Center until the current contract expires.

"We have had a good relationship with Ogden Corp. and expect the same good relationship with its successor," said Murray Blackwelder, vice president for external affairs. "There will be no interruption in events at the Iowa State Center during this changeover, though we will not know what the impact on employment at the center will be until the new contract is in place."

The ISU Center includes Hilton Coliseum, Stephens Auditorium, Fisher Theater and the Scheman Building.
