Daily creates scholarships

by Steve Sullivan
The Iowa State Dailyhas pledged $100,000 to create two scholarship programs.

One will provide $7,500 annually for tuition scholarships; the other $2,500 each year for professional development scholarships for students to attend conferences, workshops and conventions. Both will begin fall semester 2000. The number of scholarships and amounts will vary.

"These scholarships will help to foster the program by providing incentive for new and returning students to get involved," said Michael Gonsalves, a senior English major and chair of the Dailypublication board.

Journalism students who are current Dailyemployees, as well as outstanding high school seniors who will work at the Daily and major in print journalism, will be eligible for both scholarships.

The Dailygift was made to the Iowa State Foundation as part of the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication's $18 million challenge campaign. Alumni Bob and Diane Greenlee, Boulder, Colo., initiated the campaign in 1998 with a $9 million gift.
