Chemist to give food tech talks

Lipid chemist Frank Gunstone, holder of the Helen LeBaron Hilton Chair, will give two talks later this month. Gunstone wrote The Lipid Handbook,considered by many to be the bible of lipid chemistry.

He is a professor emeritus at St. Andrews University and currently is working on a lipid analysis at Liverpool and St. Andrews universities. Gunstone has published more than 300 papers on synthesis of fatty acids and identification of novel fatty acids. He also wrote the text-book, Fatty Acid and Lipid Chemistry.

He will discuss "Feeding the Multitude: Where is Tomorrow's Equivalent of the Five Loaves and Two Fishes" at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, in 1010 LeBaron auditorium. Refreshments will be served at 7:30 p.m.

On Thursday, Oct. 28, he will talk on "Feeding the Favoured: Tailor-Made Fats" at 8 p.m. in 1414 Molecular Biology.
