Death

M.E. "Gene" Ensminger

M.E. "Gene" Ensminger died July 5 in Clovis, Calif. He was 90. Iowa State awarded Ensminger an honorary doctorate of humane letters in 1996 to recognize his achievements in animal science, education and international agriculture.

Ensminger was professor of animal science at Washington State University for 21 years. In recent years, he teamed with Iowa State officials to conduct agricultural technology schools in Russia, Ukraine and Cuba. Another school is planned in China this fall.

Also this fall, the ISU department of animal science will dedicate the Ensminger International Room in the new addition to the Meats Laboratory. The meeting room will be an archive for Ensminger's papers, memorabilia and collected works of art.
