Iowa Games adds sports, moves to mid-July

The 1998 Iowa Summer Games again will be held on campus this summer. The state finals in most sports will be held Friday- Sunday, July 17-19. More than 16,000 athletes are expected to participate in summer games events this year.

Sports premiering in these summer games are 3D archery (Isaak Walton League, Ames, Saturday and Sunday), in which competitors must locate and hit three-dimensional objects; disc golf (Gateway Park disc golf course, Saturday and Sunday); fencing (Lied Center, Saturday); mountain biking (Seven Oaks Recreation Area, Boone, Saturday); and sailing (Bel Aire Beach, Storm Lake, June 20-21).

Besides sailing, exceptions to the July 17-19 competition dates will be in these sports:

The criterium bicycle race will be held on central campus beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 18. ISU employees are asked to not drive or park vehicles along the race route (Morrill Road and Osborne and Union drives) from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
