Madison named library dean

by Steve Sullivan

Olivia Madison, associate director for public services and collections and interim library dean, has been named dean of library services. The appointment is effective July 1.

Madison has been a member of the ISU library faculty since 1975 and interim library dean since August.

She has led the serials cataloging section in the serials department, as well as the monographs and cataloging departments. From 1991 to January 1998, she served as assistant director for public services. Since January, she has been on temporary leave from her position as associate director for public services and collections. In that position, she managed ISU's library system.

As chair of the International Federation of Library Associations' section on cataloging, Madison will attend two inter-national conferences to speak on a report recently completed on cataloging standards for international bibliographic standards.

Madison received a B.S. in history (1972) from Iowa State and an M.A. in library science (1975) from the University of Missouri, Columbia.

Former dean of library services Nancy Eaton left Iowa State in August to become dean of university libraries at Pennsylvania State University, University Park.
