Teaching center offers fellowships

by Anne Dolan

Faculty with excellent teaching skills and a desire to further develop and share their expertise are invited to apply for a new fellowship sponsored by the Center for Teaching Excellence.

Two faculty members will receive Teaching Faculty Fellowships for half-time release from departmental duties during the 1998-99 academic year.

The program, recently approved by the center's advisory board, is aimed at giving faculty members a collaborative role in developing and leading programs offered by the center and promoting teaching at Iowa State. Fellows also receive off-campus opportunities for their own professional development and up to $1,000 to support their projects for the center.

Potential projects could be in areas such as developing cross-disciplinary programs, enhancing professional development programs for graduate T.A.s, expanding peer mentoring programs or developing better methods to evaluate teaching effectiveness.

Information on how to apply is on the Web at: www.cte.iastate.edu/facfellows.html.

Applications are due Friday, April 17, to the Center for Teaching Excellence, 204 Lab of Mechanics. Fellowship recipients will be announced by early May.

For more information, contact Corly Petersen Brooke, director of the center, 4-2402, cpeterse@iastate.edu.
