4-H center offers youth camps, workshops for faculty, staff

Summer offerings at the Iowa 4-H Center, near Ames, include workshops for those who work with youth as well as summer camps for children and families.

Workshops for faculty, staff, student teachers and others who work with youth are available on astronomy, archaeology, earth sciences and leading wilderness trips for youth. Participants will explore nature, collect samples, take photos and learn practical ways to teach about nature in and outside the classroom. Optional college credit is offered.

The 4-H Center will host 16 other camps this summer, including camps for children and families, youth wilderness trips and youth camps. Campers need not be 4-H members.

The 1,100-acre camp is in the Des Moines River Valley. Activities include swimming, hiking, campfires and games.
