Loan fund set up for Asian students

ISU students from four Asian countries will have access to $100,000 in emergency loans to help deal with currency devaluation in their countries.

The loans are being provided by the Provost Office, colleges and the President's Office for students from Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia and Thailand who are having difficulty making tuition payments. ISU has 785 students from those countries.

Since it was announced last month, approximately 200 students have signed up for an extension, until August, on spring tuition payments.

Eligible students may apply for the emergency loan assistance beginning Monday (March 23) at the Office of International Students and Scholars, 4 Hamilton. The ISU Foundation is accepting donations for an emergency assistance fund, and the ISU Student Employment Center is working with the Ames Chamber of Commerce to identify additional jobs in the area.
