Forum looks at humor in class

by Anne Dolan

The discussion during the December Faculty Forum and Dinner series will focus on humor in the classroom. Ron Deiter, professor of economics (College of Agriculture), will introduce the topic. The series is a program of the Center for Teaching Excellence and will be held Monday, Dec. 8, in the Memorial Union Cardinal Room.

In his introduction, Deiter said he will discuss the different types and sources of humor that can be used in the classroom and will share his perceptions of the benefits of using humor in class. He also will offer some "do's" and "don'ts" he has learned through experience.

Dinner begins at 6 p.m. and costs $10, payable at the door. A social time precedes dinner at 5:30 p.m. and the discussion begins at approximately 6:45 p.m. Faculty unable to come for dinner are welcome at the discussion. Dinner participants are asked to make a reservation by 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, with Jane Henning, 4-2906, e-mail: njhenni@iastate.edu.
