by Tracy Griffin, News Service intern

A musical theater version of a cartoon series that aired more than 20 years ago hits the Fisher Theater stage beginning Nov. 14.

Schoolhouse Rock is an educational cartoon series that ran between 1973 and 1985 during Saturday morning shows. The 3-minute cartoons were intended to help children learn by putting lessons to music.

Schoolhouse Rock Live compiles 21 songs from the original cartoon series, including the Emmy award-winning "Conjunction Junction" and "My Hero Zero."

The 10-member cast of ISU students will perform the show Nov. 14-16 and Dec. 5-7. Friday shows are at 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday shows are at 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sunday shows are at 2 p.m. The (Sunday) Nov. 16 performance will have a sign language interpreter.

Theater faculty member Marguerite Bennett Folger directs Schoolhouse Rock Live.

Tickets, which can be purchased at the Iowa State Center Ticket Office and all TicketMaster outlets, are $10.
