Two Des Moines firms land ISU communications contracts

Two Des Moines design firms will provide marketing communications services for Iowa State units over the next three years. After a summer-long process during which bids from 10 firms were reviewed, Mauck + Associates (Kent Mauck, principal) was named the primary service provider and Cooper Smith & Co. (Sally Cooper Smith, principal) was named the secondary service provider.
University marketing director Carole Custer said that because of the anticipated volume of projects coming from university units and offices in the next few years, both firms will be used.
"Over the past four years, Mauck + Associates has helped the university do everything from total communication campaigns to Elwood Drive banners to brochures, fliers and advertisements," Custer said. "Many of their projects have resulted in increased responses and heightened awareness for university programs. A number of their projects for Iowa State have won regional and national communications awards.
"In her presentations during the bidding process, Sally Cooper Smith impressed us with her firm's organizational capabilities and understanding of serving a large university as well as its individual units," Custer said. "Samples of projects she created for other clients demonstrated a creative level and quality this university expects to support its image."
College representatives and regular users of the university's marketing communications services helped evaluate the 10 firms this summer.
Faculty and staff who would like to use these marketing services should call Custer, 4- 3134, to start the process.
Custer also said vice presidents and deans soon will receive guidelines for the marketing office's annual central funding program (for communications projects related to student recruitment or fund raising) to share with the units that report to them.
