by Michelle Johnson

Betty Sue Flowers, professor of English and former associate dean of graduate studies, University of Texas, Austin, has been named to the Dean Helen LeBaron Hilton Endowed Chair in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences for the 1997-98 academic year.

Flowers is a well-known author, poet and business consultant. Her works include Joseph Campbell and The Power of Myth, both written in collaboration with television commentator Bill Moyers. Flowers has served as a consultant to NASA. She also has served on General Motors' Envisioning Network and written global scenarios for Shell International.

"Betty Sue's vision and rich experiences will be tremendous assets as we chart the future of our college for the 21st century," said Family and Consumer Sciences Dean Beverly Crabtree. "This is an exciting follow-up to the focus of last year's chair, leadership for change."

Flowers succeeds James Autry, who held the chair during the 1996-97 academic year.
