Food court festivities Aug. 27

Festivities for the grand opening of the new food court and commons area in the Memorial Union begin Tuesday, Aug. 27, with a ribbon cutting at 11 a.m. in the commons on the lower level. Food samples and door prize registration will continue until 5 p.m.

Food court customers Tuesday will receive a ticket good for discounts on video games in the MU Recreation Center, free popcorn at the Maintenance Shop, free copies in the ISU Copy Center and other specials in the building.

McDonald's, the final tenant in the food court, opened earlier this month. Other brand-name outlets that have opened since mid-May are Panda Express (Chinese), Subway (sandwiches), Chick fil-A (grilled chicken), Casa Ortega (Mexican entrees), Tomassito's (pizza and salads), Burgie's Espresso Cafe and Freshens Ice Cream. In addition, the Memorial Union operates Hearthstone, which features homestyle daily entrees and a bakery.

Beginning Monday, Aug. 26, the interior restaurants will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Subway, Burgie's/Freshens and Panda Express lie outside of the inner ring and will set their own hours, which are expected to be very similar. However, Panda Express does not serve breakfast.
