Airline reservation system on line

by Diana Pounds
Faculty and staff now can obtain airline fares and schedules and even book their own business flights through Travel and Transport's online reservation system.

The new system is available to Iowa State faculty and staff through the World Wide Web. From the main Iowa State homepage, click "faculty and staff information."

Training sessions on using the new system will be Aug. 22 and Sept. 19 at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Additional sessions will be scheduled as needed. Contact Cathy Beckman (4-9394) to register. Sessions will be held on the second floor of the General Services Building.

"The new system is part of recent efforts by ISU and Travel and Transport to improve service to ISU faculty and staff," said Ron Santi, director of business affairs.

Travel and Transport also recently added staff and phone lines, dedicated its Welch office exclusively to business travel and hired an audit firm to study its success in providing travelers with the lowest fares available, Santi said.

Santi noted that reservations scheduled via the online service actually will not be booked until appropriate travel authorizations are received by Travel and Transport's Welch Avenue office.

He also added that the online reservation system currently is available only for university business. The fares on the system will reflect university discount agreements with two airlines and will not be applicable for personal travel.

Travel and Transport officials say they intend to offer another site for leisure travelers by early winter.

Travel and Transport provides travel services to Iowa State under a competitively bid university contract.
