Letter:

Consumers, not McDonald's, the problem

To the editor:

I just read Jeff Hall's letter to the editor in the June 14 issue of Inside Iowa State concerning a McDonald's in the Hub.

I think we need a forum to address thoughtless calls for forums!

Mr. Hall thinks issues concerning fast food refuse, trash and nutritional benefits are different for McDonald's than the current Hub food service. They aren't.

The problems in the Library and around campus are caused by consumers -- students, faculty and staff -- not the food providers. Why blame companies for our failure to be responsible consumers? We have a beautiful campus and we need to keep it that way.

By the way, McDonald's will be one of several new food providers brought to campus by the Union and the ISU administration. I look forward to the variety.
