Affirmative Action Office

Deborah Love, director of equal opportunity and regulatory
compliance for the University of Mississippi, University, has
been named Iowa State's assistant to the president and
affirmative action officer.
Love has been in her current position at the University of Mississippi for nearly two years. She also served as assistant to the dean at the School of Law at Mississippi from 1992 to 1994. Before that, she was a reference and research librarian at the Mississippi College School of Law, Jackson; and a law clerk with Ellen Bonner, P.A., and the Public Service Intern Program, both in Gulfport, Miss. She also served in the U.S. Army.
Love received a B.S. in criminal justice in 1981 from Jackson State University, Mississippi; and a J.D. in 1991 from the University of Mississippi School of Law.
Love will begin her new duties Aug. 15.
Jeanne Johnson has served as interim director of the Affirmative Action Office since David Torres resigned last August.
Iowa Energy Center

Floyd Barwig, manager of building energy programs at Pacific
Northwest Laboratory, Richland, Wash., has been named
director of the Iowa Energy Center, located at Iowa State.
Barwig's appointment begins July 17.
Previously, Barwig worked in the New York State Energy Office (NYSEO) for more than 12 years, serving as program manager for energy codes and appliance efficiency standards, and as director of the Technical Services Bureau, an in-house consulting team that provided architectural and engineering support to NYSEO programs.
Barwig received a B.S. degree (1968) and a bachelor of architecture degree (1969) from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY; and a master of architecture (1971) from the University of California, Berkeley.
Barwig succeeds John Cummings, who retired June 30, 1995.
Vice president for research and advanced studies Patricia Swan has served as interim director of the center.
