Inside Iowa State Oct. 27, 1995 MEDIA BREAK '95 HAS A NEW LOOK by Anne Dolan Media Break '95 will have a more structured format than past events, one organizers hope is more useful to the university community. It will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, in the Memorial Union. It is an opportunity for ISU employees to learn about media innovations (computer hardware and software, long-distance education, the Internet) as well as about unusual media projects or applications on campus. Media Resources, which sponsors the event, teamed with the Training and Development office to design nine 50-minute workshops this year. All but two will be presented twice during the day. "The topics are a combination of what clients ask us about most often and of new things we know are right around the corner," said Don Rieck, director of Media Resources. The November/December catalog from Training and Development includes a summary of the seminars and a registration form. In addition to the workshops, roundtable discussions will be held from noon to 1 p.m. in the Memorial Union Great Hall. Sandwiches will be sold or participants may bring their lunches; tables will be labeled with discussion topics and participants will select a topic of interest to them. Media Resources staff will facilitate. Rieck said the new format is intended to revitalize Media Break and reverse dwindling attendance in recent years. Rieck said the new format, with an emphasis on instruction, also better suits the center's goal of training and assisting faculty and staff to do more things themselves rather than relying on Media Resources staff for all services. ISU employees should preregister for workshops by calling the Training and Development Office, 4-7818 (e-mail: dlburger@iastate.edu). No preregistration is required for the lunch discussions. __________ University Relations Iowa State University
