Inside Iowa State Oct. 27, 1995 ANNOUNCEMENTS FALL BLOOD DRIVE The 1995 Fall Blood Drive will be held Oct. 30-Nov. 3 in the Memorial Union Great Hall. Hours will be 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday. The student-run blood drive has a goal of 1,800 donors. This year's theme is "It Takes All Types of Heroes." MINORITY STUDENT RECRUITERS Vern Hawkins and Delores Hawkins have been named temporary coordinators of minority student recruitment. They will serve as special assistants to the vice president for student affairs. They fill a vacancy created this summer and will serve through next summer, when a national search will be conducted to fill the position permanently. Vern Hawkins is an enrollment services adviser in the Admissions Office; Delores Hawkins is an enrollment services adviser in Student Financial Aid. KARATE CLUB TAKES SECOND The Iowa State Karate Club, coached by Yong Chin Pak, placed second at the national collegiate Tae kwon do tournament Oct. 20-21. There were 125 colleges and universities competing. The team was paced by Bonnie Harrison, who finished first in her class, and Tim Wiegand, who placed second in his class. P&S AWARD NOMINATIONS Nomination forms for all P&S staff awards are in the Office of the Provost, 107 Beardshear. Following is information on the four P&S awards: --The Professional and Scientific Excellence Award recognizes those who have made significant contributions to the instruction, research and service missions of the university. Nominations are due Dec. 15 in 103 Lab of Mechanics. --The Superior Service Award recognizes non-faculty employees of the university who have rendered outstanding service to students and/or alumni. Nominations are due Feb. 1 to the Alumni Association, Alumni Suite, Memorial Union. --The Regents Award for Staff Excellence is presented to up to six staff (professional and scientific and supervisory/confidential) members each year. Nominations are due Dec. 15 in 103 Lab of Mechanics. --The Carroll Ringgenberg Award recognizes P&S staff who exhibit dedication to Iowa State and have a long history of excellence in the service of others. IOWA SHARES EXTENDS CAMPAIGN Iowa Shares and the National Health Agencies of Iowa (NHAI) have extended the deadline for mailing in pledge cards for their combined fund-raising campaign, Partnership for Iowa. CATT CENTER CO-SPONSORS TRAINING WORKSHOP Women who may seek an elected position and women and men involved in political campaigns are invited to a weekend workshop in the Memorial Union, co-sponsored by the Catt Center for Women and Politics and the National WomenÕs Political Caucus. The workshops run from 8 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, to 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12. Registration is $45. Workshop participants also are invited to a reception at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in Catt Hall.
