Inside Iowa State Oct. 26, 1995 ISU PICKED FOR TRIAL FINANCIAL AID PROGRAM by Steve Sullivan Iowa State has been selected for a new U.S. Department of Education five-year experimental program that will exempt more than 100 colleges and universities from some major student financial aid regulations. The Department of Education will allow the selected institutions to use their own methods to manage student aid, including student loan processing, funds distribution and methods of informing students about repayment plans, said Earl Dowling, ISU financial aid director. "Being part of this experiment means that the financial aid process at Iowa State is going be even more efficient," Dowling said. Iowa State is the only Iowa school in the experimental program. Last year, ISU was one of the first schools to participate in the federal direct loan program. ______ University Relations Iowa State University
