Inside Iowa State Oct. 13, 1995 _________________ P&S Council: Retention Proposals Due Dec. 1 by Anne Dolan Professional and Scientific employees are encouraged to start thinking about strategies and projects that could help recruit or retain Iowa State students. Proposal forms will be mailed to all P&S staff by Oct. 21, with proposals due Dec. 1. Grant recipients will be announced by Dec. 15. The recruitment and retention program is in its second year and again funded by $20,000 earmarked by President Martin Jischke. Last year, six proposals, ranging in size from $500 to about $6,500, received funding. The P&S program is part of broader university efforts to improve student recruitment and retention rates. Amanda Clark, a research associate at the Center for Nondestructive Evaluation and P&S Council member, is coordinating the selection process. In other business at the October P&S Council meeting: -- Barb Harville (Academic and Research) and Steve Simpson (Student Affairs) announced their resignations from the council. Each is leaving Iowa State. Jan Putnam, associate classification officer for the College of Engineering and a past council member, will complete Harville's term. Simpson's successor has not been selected. -- The council will host a second open forum luncheon at noon Thursday, Nov. 2, in the Memorial Union Campanile Room. It is open to P&S employees and will feature a panel of ISU experts who will answer questions related to professional development.
