Inside Iowa State Oct. 13, 1995 _________________ Project Iowa Seeks Volunteers by Anne Dolan After a pilot plan that sent teams to four Iowa communities last spring, Project Iowa is expanding this year and seeks volunteer ambassadors. A general information and orientation session for all interested faculty and P&S staff will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, in 114 Marston. Project Iowa is an outreach project initiated a year ago by Carol Bradley, director of governmental relations. It pairs faculty with P&S staff in two-member teams that select and visit an Iowa community to share information about Iowa State. ISU Extension employees help set up appointments with local civic or business groups. This year, teams also may choose to meet with parent-teacher organizations and other education-based groups. The visits include a short video about Iowa State and a question-and- answer session that might cover anything from residence hall food to the track team. Last year, representatives of the Faculty Senate and P&S Council made the community visits; the opportunity is extended to all faculty and P&S staff this year. Individuals need not have a traveling partner to attend the first session. Pairings will be done at the end of the hour. "You don't have to be a native Iowan to be qualified to do this," said Darlene Gluck, P&S Council president who visited Manning last spring with former Faculty Senate president Tony Netusil. "In fact, if you're interested in the idea, you're probably a good person to do it." Questions about the program should be directed to Gluck, 4- 8598, or Faculty Senate president Ron Peters, 4-2322. __________ University Relations Iowa State University
