Inside Iowa State Oct. 13, 1995 _________________ Iowa Shares Partners With State Health Association For Fall Campaign by Linda Charles The Iowa Shares campaign has a new twist on campus this year. Donors can give to two agencies with one pledge card. As an experiment, Iowa Shares and the National Health Agencies of Iowa (NHAI) have combined their campaign efforts at Iowa State into the "Partnership for Iowa." "This partnership will expand charitable choices for all ISU employees," said Peggy Baker, Iowa Shares executive director. "Iowa Shares and NHAI believe more choices mean more of our community will be served." "Our administrative costs will be significantly less under the partnership," added Ivy Ward, executive director of NHAI, a federation of 13 Iowa health agencies. If successful, the partnership could expand into other areas next year, said Nancy Guthrie, Iowa Shares media representative. Iowa Shares conducts its fund-raising campaign at 18 workplaces throughout Iowa. Iowa Shares is a coalition of 22 organizations that work for issues supporting women, the environment, peace and justice, the community and animal rights. New member organizations this year include Amnesty International of Iowa, Animal Rescue League of Iowa Inc., Children & Family Urban Ministries, People Place and Women's Resource Action Center. Eighty-six cents of each dollar Iowa Shares collects goes directly to its organizations, Guthrie said. This year's campaign focus is on increasing the number of people who contribute, she added. At least 100 ISU employees must contribute to the campaign through payroll deduction this year for Iowa Shares to continue its university drive next year. "Iowa State participation has been very positive," Guthrie said. "Employees have been responsive and receptive to more charitable choices. "Where we've been able to make personal contact, we get an excellent response. Because Iowa Shares and NHAI have limited promotional resources, both federations will continue to build and expand their network of ISU friends who help by sharing information with colleagues about the work and member organizations of the two federations," she said. Iowa State employees should have received their pledge cards in campus mail during the last week in September. They are asked to return their pledges by Oct. 31. Anyone who didn't receive a pledge card or wants more information can call Ralph Knox, Iowa Shares campus contact, 4-9794. __________ University Relations Iowa State University
