NUTCRACKER AUDITIONS

Auditions for the Iowa State Center production of The 
Nutcracker Ballet will be held Sunday, Sept. 10, in Stephens 
Auditorium. Registration begins at 11:15 a.m. Interested 
persons should arrive early to have time to fill out forms 
before their auditions.

Children ages 8 and older will audition from noon to 3 p.m., 
adults from 3 to 4 p.m. and ballet dancers (male and female, 
pointe and non-pointe) 4 to 7 p.m. Dancers should wear 
leotards, tights and ballet or pointe shoes.

Parking will be available in lot B-3; enter Stephens through 
the stage door on the southeast side.

People interested in helping behind the scenes or seeking 
more information should call the Dancenter, 233-3609.


HONORS RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIPS

Undergraduate research assistantships for students in the 
Freshman Honors Program will be offered spring semester. 

Faculty and graduate students engaged in research and 
interested in providing opportunities for freshman student 
assistants should contact Andrew Ryder, University Honors

SENIORS CONVOCATION

The ISU College for Seniors fall convocation will begin at 
2:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11, in 220 Scheman. Instructors will 
be introduced and the eight courses previewed. Registration, 
if space is available, also will take place. The eight-week 
term begins Monday, Sept. 18.

Refreshments will be served at 2 p.m. in the second floor 
lobby of Scheman. For more information, contact the

TALK OF IOWA

President Martin Jischke will be a guest on the Wednesday, 
Sept. 6, edition of Talk of Iowa on WOI-AM radio. He will 
talk about the beginning of the school year and several of 
Iowa StateÕs new initiatives, including the PresidentÕs 
Scholarship Campaign, the four-year graduation plan, an 
expanded offering of evening courses (see story on page 3) 
and ÒSucceeding With StudentsÓ.

Talk of Iowa airs weekdays at 10 a.m. WOI is at 640 on the AM 
dial.


RETIREES ANNIVERSARY

The ISU Retirees Committee will celebrate its 20th 
anniversary from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, in Benton 
Auditorium, Scheman. Former ISU President Robert Parks and 
George Christensen will share some of their ISU memories.

Following the program, an oak tree planted on the north 
Scheman lawn will be dedicated by the College for Seniors, a 
program of the ISU retirees group.

The ISU Retirees Committee was organized by the late Helen 
LeBaron Hilton to serve university employees prior to and 
following retirement. 

The anniversary celebration is open to the public. For more

MERIT TUITION GRANTS

Applications and information on tuition grants for eligible 
merit employees (E and H base) for spring semester 1996 are 
available in the Office of Human Resource Services, 16 
Beardshear. Applications are due by 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29,

P&S TUITION GRANTS

Applications and information on tuition grants for eligible 
P&S employees (P base) for spring semester 1996 are available

ICE CREAM SOCIAL

Faculty and staff are invited to an ice cream social 
preceding the womenÕs volleyball match against Northern Iowa. 
The social begins at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, on the 
south side of Scheman, under the breezeway. The game begins 
at 7:30 p.m. in Hilton Coliseum.

Two year-long passes to the Lied Recreation/Athletic Center 
will be given away. Register at the social; winners will be 
announced at the game (must be present to win). For more

DPS PARTY

The campus community is invited to a road block party from 11 
a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, south of the campanile.

The party is to increase awareness of Department of Public 
Safety services, provide crime prevention information and 
give participants the opportunity to meet with ISU police 
officers. There will be free pizza and prizes, a dunk tank 
and paint ball target shooting competition.
