Hoop Dreams Part of Campus Summer Scene by Linda Charles Oscar may have snubbed Hoop Dreams, but the Lectures Program didn't. The award-winning documentary about the lives of two inner- city youths who dream of playing NBA basketball is among the offerings (June 29) in "The I-Blinked-and-Missed-It" film series, part of the Lectures Program "Summer Scene." Other film offerings include Circle of Friends, a coming-of- age story about three girls from a small town who go to college in Dublin, starring Chris O'Donnell (June 20); Deloris Clairbourne, the psychological thriller based on Stephen King's novel and starring Kathy Bates and Jennifer Jason Leigh (July 6); Don Juan Demarco, about a psychiatrist who treats a suicidal young man who's convinced he's the reincarnation of Don Juan, starring Johnny Depp and Marlon Brando (July 13); and Losing Isaiah, the story of a birth mother's attempt to regain custody of her son, with Jessica Lange and Halle Berry (July 20). The summer program also includes lectures on "The Last of the Quarks" by John Hauptman, department of physics and astronomy (June 21); "Women and Men Talking Together: Rethinking Gender and Language," by Jane Vallier, department of speech communication (July 12); and "The Federal Budget Deficit: Tough Choices," by John Miranowski, department of economics (July 19).
