ISU To Get Fourth ICN Facility Iowa State has received approval to expand its fiber optics classroom capabilities. At its June 8 meeting, the Iowa Board of Regents approved a project to remodel 1,700 square feet in Carver Hall to create an Iowa Communications Network classroom. The regents approved a $365,000 preliminary budget for the project. Iowa State has ICN classrooms in Lagomarcino Hall and the Engineering Annex. Beginning in the fall, ISU will have an ICN connection that serves three rooms in the College of Agriculture's Brenton Center in Curtiss Hall. ICN classrooms have new computer technology to provide statewide signal distribution through the ICN, and nationwide and worldwide signal distribution utilizing other technologies, particularly low-orbit satellites. The Carver Hall classroom will enable ISU instructors to teach students enrolled in the College of Business' Saturday MBA program at sites throughout the state. The classroom's satellite capability also will enable the College of Business to participate in national business programs and expand international programs. The project will incorporate state-of-the-art architectural/engineering and media devices. Included will be an infrastructure that allows computer/electronic interaction between students and instructor, and among classrooms, offices and databases both on and off campus. _____ contact: Internal Communications, (515) 294-7065 updated: 6-15-95
