Extension Head Will Return To Teaching by Diana Pounds Robert M. Anderson will leave his position as vice provost for extension to return to teaching. Anderson said he proposed the move in a recent request to Provost John Kozak because "I need a change. I'm returning to my first love, which is teaching -- undergraduate teaching." Anderson will assume responsibilities as a professor in the electrical and computer engineering department. "In his five years at Iowa State, Anderson has overseen an impressive transformation of extension," Kozak said, "from extensive reorganization and retraining of staff to the development of the leading extension information network in the nation. The computer network, which will be completed in a few days, gives every extension staff member in the state electronic access to the campus, each other, and information sources and databases throughout the world. The vice provost also led extension's quick and effective response to the floods of 1993." Anderson came to Iowa State in 1990 from General Electric, where he had directed the training and continuing education of 50,000 GE engineers and scientists worldwide. Prior to that, he spent 12 years on the faculty at Purdue University, West Layfayette, Ind., where he was the Ball Brothers Professor of Engineering and led off-campus engineering programs. President Martin Jischke said that "Anderson's leadership in defining and advancing the concept of 'knowledge that works for Iowans' for the 21st century is the hallmark of Bob's legacy to the citizens of our state and nation." Jischke and Kozak said they do not intend to change the extension administrative structure. Kozak will name an interim vice provost for extension by Aug. 1, and a national search to fill the position will begin early next fall. _____ contact: Diana Pounds, Internal Communications, (515) 294- 4845 updated: 6-16-95
