Ten Computer Projects Funded by Linda Charles A general computer lab will be created in the lower level of the Memorial Union with part of the $350,000 in funds generated from student computer fees. The computer lab, consisting of 10 Power Macs, a Hewlett Packer server, a printer and Microsoft Office software, will be located in the area that formerly housed the billiard and gaming room. The Computation Advisory Committee, a committee of faculty and students, recently distributed the funds based on proposals submitted by students, faculty and staff. The committee received 45 requests for funds and funded 10 projects, several of which included cost-sharing with other funding sources. The funds will be used to purchase more than 85 computers and 20 workstations, along with software, scanners, printers, computer upgrades and Ethernet and World Wide Web access in a variety of areas across campus. All ISU students pay a $44 per semester computer fee. Computer science and management information systems students pay an additional $81 per semester and engineering students pay an additional $116 in computer fees. The fees provide funds to upgrade computer facilities, make computers readily available to students and stimulate the use of computers in classes. _____ contact: Linda Charles, Internal Communication, (515) 294- 3129 updated: 6-16-95
