Announcements NEW LIBRARY CURATOR The Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Archives, founded in 1994, continues to collect the papers of women scientists and engineers. BIOETHICS SYMPOSIUM ISUÕs bioethics program is sponsoring a symposium April 29 on ethical issues surrounding biotechnology. It is for college and secondary educators, legislators, professionals and the public. The symposium begins at 9 a.m. in 1414 Molecular Biology. There is no registration fee, but preregistration is requested by April 21. An optional lunch is available for $5. Richard Van Iten, professor of philosophy, will open the symposium with an introduction to bioethics. David Kline, professor of philosophy and dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the State University of New York, New Paltz, will discuss ethics, biotechnology and food labeling. DISTANCE LEARNING SATELLITE PROGRAM The College of Family and Consumer Sciences will receive a satellite program on "Designing Learning Modules for Distance Learning" from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 28, in 144 Durham. Tom Cyrs, New Mexico State University, will serve as lead facilitator. All members of the ISU community may participate, but seating is limited, so reservations are necessary. To register and receive program materials, contact Deanna Stumbo, 4-5982. LIBRARY FRIENDS RECEPTION The ISU Library Friends will host a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 21, at The Knoll. Bill Boon, professor of landscape architecture, and Harlen Groe, an Ames landscape designer, will discuss their 1990 book, NatureÕs Heartland: Native Plant Communities of the Great Plains. Their presentation will include a slide show and book signing. Library Friends was begun in 1992 to promote the library, attract donations and provide financial support, and sponsor activities that showcase library resources. UNIVERSITY RELATIONS SEARCH WILL BE REOPENED The search for a director of university relations will be reopened this summer. "This is an important position and we want to find the best possible match for the university," vice president for external affairs Reid Crawford said.
